Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickups

Things are shaking up in the fantasy universe, and maybe you can make some moves to help provide security for your fantasy squad as we tread through the heart of the season.

Chase Edmunds (31% owned in ESPN / 48% owned in Yahoo): Edmunds should be at the top of everybody's radar at the moment as David Johnson struggles to be productive with an injury. The Cardinals' second year running back showed out on Sunday with a ridiculous performance. Now although it was against a struggling Giants defense, Edmunds has at least shown the Cardinals that he should be a valuable tool to Arizona as the season continues, even when Johnson is 100%. If he's on your wire, go ahead an stash him and see if he continues to produce.

Alex Erickson (1% owned in ESPN / 2% owned in Yahoo): Erickson balled out on Sunday in the Bengals 27-17 loss vs the Jaguars. He was a bright spot on a struggling team, and showed that he can be important, even if/when A.J. Green returns. The fourth-year wide-receiver hauled in eight receptions for 137 yards and showed good chemistry with Dalton, even with Dalton struggling. Erickson still needs to consistently produce for us to take notice and be comfortable inserting him into our lineups, but as long as the Bengals continue to play games from behind, they'll continue to pass. The more opportunities to make plays, the more plays somebody can make. Stash him.

Matthew Stafford (48% owned in ESPN / 58% owned in Yahoo): This man played very well against the Vikings, and has honestly not been terrible. It still puzzles me that there are people still starting Baker Mayfield when Stafford is on the wire in about half of all fantasy leagues. Stafford is currently the #12 QB this season and doesn't necessarily have the hardest schedule left this season, but he doesn't have the easiest either. He has games vs the Giants, Raiders, and Redskins still on the schedule, but also has to face the Bears twice. We'll see how it pans out, but if you're still holding on to Baker hoping he'll all-of-a-sudden bring you fantasy glory, trust me, you may need a backup plan.

Jamaal Williams (55% owned in ESPN / 60% owned in Yahoo): To be fair, it seemed like every Packers player and their dog scored decent fantasy points this week vs the Raiders, but Williams has been given decent opportunities during the last couple weeks. He plays a good secondary role behind Jones, and if he has the hot hand, Green Bay isn't afraid to give him the ball. Aaron Jones is the more relevant back to own for the Packers right now, obviously, but Williams will have good outings himself as the season continues.

TY Johnson (1% owned in ESPN / 2% owned in Yahoo): Kerryon Johnson left the game vs Minnesota in a knee brace, and is most likely going to be questionable this week vs the Giants. TY Johnson should be another high priority pickup this week as he seemed to be the workhorse for the Lions after Kerryon left the game. He recorded 14 touches for only 57 total yards, but he should be in for an easier game vs the Giants struggling defense this week. He'll get his opportunities, and he'll bring even more value if he scores. Get him.
