Injury Report: Post Week 9
Christian McCaffrey - AC Joint Sprain - Week to Week
CMC suffered a typical AC joint sprain in his shoulder towards the end of his return to action in Week 9 against the Chiefs. In typical Christian McCaffrey fashion however, he dropped 37 points before exiting, but is now expected to miss Week 10, and possibly even more. Pay close attention to CMC, as he could return as soon as next week, or it could haunt him for many more weeks. Mike Davis makes his return to relevance, and is a top 10 running back play in the absence of the best player in fantasy football.
David Johnson - Concussion - Questionable
David Johnson was finally on a roll in 2020, and had scored 10+ fantasy points in 5 straight games before being forced to exit in the first quarter of his Week 9 matchup with the Jags. Johnson is not trending towards playing this week, and is currently in concussion protocol. Duke Johnson, who saw 20 touches without DJ in the lineup, and posted 15.3 fantasy points, is surefire RB2 play without DJ on the field. Start Duke Johnson Jr. with confidence in PPR leagues. Don't expect David Johnson to miss more than a week, but we have seen people miss extended time due to concussions. *cough cough Jordan Reed*
David Montgomery - Concussion - Questionable
Monty was shaken up late in the Bears loss to the Titans on Sunday. He compiled 14 carries for 30 yards, and 12 yards on 3 receptions, and lost a fumble before exiting. David Montgomery is also in concussion protocol, but seems more likely to play this week than David Johnson does. In his absence, Cordarelle Patterson would presumably take over the feature back role, but that does not instill much confidence in me. The only cool part about Patterson potentially taking over the lead role if Monty is out, is that you can start him at wide receiver in ESPN fantasy leagues, and essentially start 3 rb's if you so please. If David Montgomery does miss time, I would not recommend starting Patterson unless you absolutely need to.
Laviska Shenault - Hamstring - Questionable
Viska Shenault left Sunday's game with the Houston Texans early, and would not return after injuring his hamstring on his first catch of the ball game. He is listed as questionable, and practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday, which is a good sign. Keep an eye on his status throughout the week, as hamstring problems do tend to linger, but he's a younger guy, so there probably wont' be a problem. For now, the only two Jaguars I'm starting in fantasy football are D.J. Chark, and James Robinson.
Preston Williams - Foot - Injured Reserve
Preston Williams has been placed on injured reserve after presumably injuring his foot during this play on which he scored a touchdown. We aren't positive if Williams hurt his foot on this play, or earlier in the drive when he took a hard hit, but we do know that he wouldn't come back on the field again after this. With the new injured reserve rules, if a player is placed on IR for a second time in a season, they cannot be activated again, and their season is over. It's very tough to figure out if Williams was in fact on injured reserve at the beginning of the season, while recovering from his torn ACL suffered last year. Hopefully this was his first time this year being placed on the reserve, so the talented young receiver's season is not cut short for the second year in a row.
